Something for the weekend – some old, old uplifting gospel

In my opinion, any true music fan should regularly pay respect to old gospel music, because without gospel there’d be no soul music. Without soul music, there’d be no funk and disco. And without disco, there’d be no house music. These are all genres of music that have made the world a better place.

Here we have He’s Calling Me by Dorothy Love Coates & The Original Gospel Harmonettes. I have no faith or religious belief, but that doesn’t stop me feeling the joy enter my heart whenever I listen to this belter of a track. The stirrings of the birth of soul music are very much in evidence here.

Hallelujah!
